| Course Overview |
 | DESIGNED FOR All staff in the oil & gas and petrochemicals industries requiring a basic awareness in environmental techniques and management including; Operations, Engineers, Supervisors, Project managers and non-Environmental HSE professionals. It is a core (101) course for any persons who can influence environmental impact within the organisation and is also ideal for anyone new to the industry with no prior environmental knowledge.
YOU WILL LEARN - How to demonstrate a basic understanding of environmental risk management and assessment arising from oil and gas company activities including, air, water and waste emission, and their potential controls, provide definition of basic environmental terms, environmental processes (e.g. carbon cycle), assessment methodologies and discuss relevant environmental issues (e.g. wildlife, CFCs) - The need and use of permits and applicable governing regulatory bodies - How to identify basics sources, pathways and receptors of pollutants, relevant standards (e.g. industry, international) for emissions discharges and waste disposal, and operational controls and plans/procedures in place to mitigate them - How to identify where and when environmental monitoring is required and methods to measure environmental performance, understand basic documentation and data preservation requirements - The range of consequences of a spill and a typical prevention and response plan - Basic concepts of risk based management of potentially contaminated land, the options for control and remediation, and basic issues for on-going monitoring
ABOUT THE COURSE
Recognition and management of environmental related risks is seen as integral to all operational, management and professional roles in the industry. This course aims to equip participants with the principles and practice of environmental techniques and management, introducing concepts, terms and basic compliance requirements. A variety of exercises, readings, videos and case studies will be used to understand and practise the leadership, behavioural and other tools used in management systems. This course is uniquely designed for the oil & gas industry around the PetroSkills Environmental competency map at the ‘Awareness’ level. It may be taken either independently or in conjunction with the other Basics of HSE Management (HS-18), Health (HS-14) and/or Safety (HS-10) courses. |
