Course Overview
This five-day course is designed to provide non-engineering petroleum industry technical professionals with a thorough overview of most key aspects of petroleum engineering technology and its applications. The course addresses engineering issues ranging from initial involvement with explorationists to production optimization challenges. The sessions will focus on relevant and practical issues, and will include a combination of classroom exercises and basic engineering problems. For those wishing to supplement this course with knowledge of surface facilities issues, we recommend that this course be supplemented with our existing "Introduction to Natural Gas Gathering and Processing" course.

Roger Hough
Roger Hough has over 42 years experience in the oilfield. Since retiring in 1999 he has been teaching industry courses on well technology and competitive technical intelligence. He also teaches drilling technology at the University of Calgary. Roger joined Shell in 1967 after graduating with a BSc. degree in Applied Mineral Sciences from the University of Leeds in the UK. He worked for Shell International for 32 years, and served in the UK, Italy, Malta, Brunei, Oman, Netherlands, Canada, and Venezuela. His early career was focussed on Operations Engineering which principally involved well construction, whilst latterly has held the positions of Research Manager for well technology at the Shell International research centre in Rijswijk in The Netherlands, Petroleum Engineering Manager for Shell Canada, and Operations Manager for Shell Venezuela. He also served as Senior Manager responsible for intellectual property management for Shell International. He has been active with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) over many years, and has been Programme Chair for Offshore Europe and Europec, as well as serving on numerous other SPE committees. He was a SPE Distinguished lecturer on the topic of Slim Hole Drilling, lecturing in Europe, North America and the Far East. He recently received the SPE Distinguished Member award, which is limited to 1% of the SPE membership worldwide. He currently serves as a Board member for the Calgary section of the SPE and is a member of the SPE Continuing Education Committee.
Saad Ibrahim, P. Eng.
Saad Ibrahim has over 30 years of diversified experience in the Petroleum Industry in Western Canada and internationally, including projects in Libya, Yemen, Kazakstan, Venezuela and Argentina, with special expertise in reservoir engineering with emphasis on field development planning, evaluation of depletion strategies and production optimization of a wide spectrum of oil and gas fields. Other interests include well test planning and analysis using state of the art commercially-available software; the implementation of secondary and tertiary recovery schemes; and technical and economic evaluations of oil and gas properties for acquisition and divestiture ventures. He graduated from the University of Alexandria (Egypt) with B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 1973, and obtained a post-graduate diploma from the University of Calgary in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in 1983. Saad is a member of the APEGGA, SPE and CIM.
